Before

After

Here is an example of a white paper I revamped. Aside from the new information I added and the existing content that I edited to be clear and concise, you might notice enhancements, such as:

  • An accurate, fact-checked electrical “let-go threshold” that includes female bodies (compare figure 5 of the old version to figure 1 of the new version). The old version’s figure presented men’s let-go threshold, 10 milliamperes, inadvertently implying this number is universal for men and women. However, women typically  have a lower threshold and will likely be killed if they make contact with 10 milliamperes. (This is why fact checking is important—it can literally be a matter of life or death!)
  • I designed a modified version of the traditional hierarchy-of-controls pyramid shown in the new version’s figure 3 to show where different protective methods fall on the pyramid. This helped emphasize why GFCIs, a type of device the company manufactured, are more effective than other methods.
  • Each product’s first mention hyperlinks to the product page.
  • The addition of pull quotes, which I designed myself.
  • The information contains references, to bolster credibility.
  • A more SEO-friendly title.
  • An additional resources section, with links to related literature and a snazzy sidebar, which I designed .
  • An acronym key (and fewer acronyms overall!).
  • A table of contents, for reference ease and quick document structure comprehension.
  • An improved heading structure, organized into hierarchy levels.

These changes served as the blueprint for future technical papers at the company.
